Birch Ridge Community Forest Scenic Trail Loop Temporarily Closed

At the end of Birch Hill Road, from Tuesday, October 27 to Friday, November 6, there will be heavy equipment work in an eight-acre area next to the Scenic Loop Trail and in front of the Birch Ridge Community Forest Cabin. During this time, the Scenic Loop Trail will be closed.

It is dangerous to be within 300 feet of this machine while it is in operation, because it ejects small and large pieces of branches and trees in random directions, as it mows.

There are three purposes for this treatment:

  •  Manage and improve views of the surrounding Mountains and Merrymeeting Lake.
  •  Create and open historic early successional habitat.
  •  Improve nesting habitat for birds and forage for wildlife.

Thank you.
